PAST EXHIBITION: Creativity Is A New Formula For Life
JUNE 18 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2025 | MAYOR’S GALLERY | 401 S. FOURTH ST.
Creativity Is A New Formula for Life is the fourth major initiative by Zoë Camper (co-founder and co-lead) and Julie Samuels (co-lead) of the Augmented Society of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts (RSA) Thematic Network. Continuing their mission to connect creative thinkers from around the world, both RSA fellows and non-fellows, this project was born out of conversations following the success of their 2021 education paper, “An Opportunity to Reimagine Learning.”
This project is a response to that moment of reflection. It offers space to explore our shared humanity and ask deeper questions about purpose, creativity, connection and well-being. They believe that creative thinking is not optional; it is essential. As the world faces increasingly complex and unpredictable challenges, creativity is one of the most powerful tools we have. It helps us adapt, reimagine and move forward with resilience. It invites us to question the status quo and envision new possibilities for how we live, work and interact.
This exhibition invites you to explore creativity as a vital life force and to consider how it can shape not just our individual lives but our shared future.
JULIE'S WORK ON DISPLAY: The multi-sensory installation Whispers of My Journey was presented as part of the exhibition Creativity Is A New Formula For Life at the Mayor’s Gallery. The work comprised eight large-scale prints displayed on the gallery walls, accompanied by a soundscape composed and produced by Dr. Stacie Constantinou, accessed through a screen-based presentation. A timed sequence of images was created to align with the music, producing an integrated visual and auditory experience.
This body of work draws on autobiographical material, embedding poetry into the visual and auditory components in order to explore themes of memory, identity, and lived experience. The inclusion of original poetry readings by Myrle Roach, alongside Constantinou’s composition and sound design, extends the installation beyond visual representation, creating a layered environment where voice, sound, and image intersect.
By combining visual, textual, and sonic modes of expression, Whispers of My Journey investigates concepts of vulnerability, resilience, and personal transformation. The installation positions these themes within a broader dialogue about creativity as a vehicle for reflection and connection, offering audiences an opportunity to engage both affectively and analytically with the work.
