Digital and Diversity Lead

(Based in Lincolnshire), July 2021 to present

 

Working for a social enterprise delivering visual arts and heritage events across NE Lincolnshire, Julie takes the lead in the development of overseeing the implementation and use of the CRM system, creating record sets and producing reports. Other responsibilities include leading the collaborative efforts of the project's creative digital aspirations, mobile and multiplatform projects, reviewing all aspects of the business model, building usage and programmes through a digital and diversity lens

 

Working with funding organisations including The Arts Council, National Lottery Heritage and NE Lincolnshire Council and organisations including Grimsby Minster, Hull Minster, museums, galleries, local schools and colleges Julie works collaboratively to identify key themes that promote heritage engagement using technology, that reflects the interests of the area, including current national and local strategic focus - NE Lincolnshire Regeneration Partnership.

 

Independent Researcher 

August 2016 to present

 

Julie is involved in writing academic papers for journal submission as well as short articles for publications in both blogs and magazines. In 2018 she published her first academic book titled Adoption in the Digital Age: Opportunities and Challenges for the 21st Century (Palgrave Macmillan).

 

Between January 2020 – April 2021 as co-lead of the Augmented Society Network, Julie collaboratively worked with the RSA Thematic Network based in the US alongside other international education and researchers on an educational report to reimagine education. Julie was both the senior editor for the report as well as the lead on one of the papers within the report. 

 

Working with the co-lead/co-founder Zoe Camper and Julie are developing a year-long international collaborative project Creativity offers us a new formula for life. ­­­­The project explored the different ways creativity drives innovation, science, and manufacturing; how it could provide solutions to world problems; and help us to adapt to change. The ASN have invited individuals/organisations to join them on this creative journey (digital and real world), a place where art, science and manufacturing collaborate to drive positive change through the lens of lived experience that forms, informs and cultivates positive connections between people, place and community (local and global).

 

Supply Tutor / Teaching Assistant

September 2019 – July 2021

 

Julie worked as a supply tutor/teaching assistant within schools and homes across Lincolnshire. She supported education programmes and provisions in art and design, functional skills in maths and English as well as Asdan qualifications within the home environment for children with a range of complex, and behavioural needs.

 

Art Tutor and Learning Support Assistant

Julie was employed as an art tutor and Learning Support Assistant within a children's organization specializing in learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, and emotional and psychological trauma. Within her role as an art tutor, the pupils engaged in the ASDAN’s Expressive Arts Short Course. Her other duties include supporting the teachers’ supervising activities, and motivating and encouraging pupils when working with pupils on a one-to-one basis, small group or whole class basis. Other duties include covering planned absences and allowing teachers time to plan and mark. In her role Julie helped to develop programmes of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials, assisting with marking and correcting work and attending meetings and reviews. Additional responsibilities include writing and managing the Christmas play, and helping with school events, trips and other external activities.

Working with other colleagues Julie taught the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (accredited by UAL, part of the University of the Arts London). This involved teaching, curriculum development, interview and portfolio preparation for university and employment. Other duties included the curation, organisation and publicity of the end-of-year exhibition of student work. In addition, Julie was employed as a pastoral tutor. Within this role, she signposted students to learning support, careers advisors and CAHMS.

Julie was responsible for the management of a small team of lecturers and learning support assistants that contributed to the teaching and development of the course.  Furthermore, she organised monthly course meetings with lecturers and students to raise any concerns, managed the course budget, and organised overseas and UK education-focused student trips and the end-of-year graduation exhibition of student works. Monitoring and ensuring the quality of course provision, and contributing to other aspects of quality assurance procedures, including Teaching and Learning developments was also an integral part of her role.

 

As well as administrating, assessing, recording, and reporting on students’ progress Julie attended and contributed to course, departmental, and Faculty meetings, including examination boards at both the college and Brighton University. Furthermore, she contributed to the wider professional preparation of students and provided academic advice and pastoral responsibility for the students on the course. Responsible for the primary role of admissions and student recruitment for the course, Julie interviewed prospective students, attended open days, and external recruitment events, and maintained a body of contemporary student work for use in publicity material.

 

Freelance Web Trainer

BBC Academy

October 2006 – June 2011

 

As part of the BBC two-day staff induction, two days per month Julie was contracted to provide training on web design and its implementation relating to the web development, interaction design, and design principles of the BBC. This involved implementing BBC guidelines and the development of usability standards for online content, providing an overview of web design, technology, and their use of social media. This culminated with hands-on training using the Adobe Creative Suite. Following their successful completion of the training, all delegates presented their work to their peers.

 

Senior Lecturer Creative Technologies

Teaching across a range of courses, monitoring and ensuring the quality of course provision, and contributing to other aspects of quality assurance procedures, including Teaching and Learning developments was an integral part of my role. Julie contributed to other teaching programmes within the faculty, undertook research leading to publication and supported University-wide administration. Her role also included developing and delivering core and optional modules on degree programmes within the University, setting and marking assignments. Additionally, Julie was the Link Tutor for the Foundation Degree in Music and Multimedia Technologies for a number of partner institutions. This role involves the collation, and sample marking of the student’s work as well as ensuring that the marks were submitted on time.

 

In July 2007 Julie was awarded the Faculty Award for teaching and learning support.

 

Senior Developer for Interactive Television, ITV Digital

October 2000 – July 2002

 

Julie worked on the enhancement of the Interactive Services components of the Digital TV product (email, online voting, betting and shopping).  This involved the utilisation of the content management system Mediasurface as well as the programming languages Perl, Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. She also developed an extranet site. The extranet was set up to provide an introduction to the capabilities of the ITV Active box and act as a guide to producing content for viewing through the ITV Active box and television screen.
